Moving at her own pace..

The photo metaphorically shows the composure that guided the oldest daughter easily through her first college semester---even with a sadistic Honors literature professor whose childhood idol was John Houseman.

Great White Trophy Hunter

Looks like the young lad and Peyton Manning think the same---things look better on a Sony, or at least World of Warcraft and Xbox 360s do :)

Last gingerman standing

My effigy is all smiles at not being eaten...yet.

Every dog has his day

Our family lap dog was anxious to open his present this year on Christmas morning. A keen sense of smell kept the present from going under the tree with the others because in years past he would just lay in front of the tree for weeks waiting for the big day.

A Touch of Stardom

Shown here is West Tennessee's #1 Dolphin fan coming back from shaking Jason Taylor's hand (Dolphin linebacker #99) as he was boarding the team bus. I missed the getting a picture of the handshake but I will say that Jason was all smiles and really made the young man's day.

A hush over the fans......

Not a lot of us but we made some noise for the 2 point conversion that tied things up:)

Skill players on the field

Dolfans checking out the seats.

Ready for the game....not feeling the love of the locals :)

Dolfans in Downtown Nashville

Looking for a watering hole that had the NFL Network, the boys roamed the streets of the Music City on Saturday night....

At last, a Hooters---wings and the NFL Network...and of course the girls fawned over the young bachelor in the crowd :)

Dawn on Saddleback Drive

Hard to hold the camera steady enough for a half second exposure but deep breaths help. The mountain in the far middle is the venerable Mahogany Mountain with its first total snow cover of this season. I will tell you the camera sees better than I do in the dark :)

Tough being a Dolphin Fan in the High Country

A few minutes before game time and...no signal? A quick look outside followed with another carrying a step stool and broom solved the problem....

Night and Day

In a previous post I mentioned "throwing another log on the fire". The power was out for a few wee morning hours and though it was warm inside the thought that it would be nice to have a fireplace right about now crossed my mind :)

Anyway.....late yesterday afternoon once the clouds rolled in. Take note of no mountains visible.

First thing this morning

Heads in the Clouds

Camera phone picture.....

Meteorological End-around

Well into a warming trend the last few days with temperatures allowing liquid water for a few hours each day, the next weather front has been trying to push eastward through the North-South valleys. While most of the white, fluffy stuff has been dropped in the mountains in the northern ranges, the push has finally gotten around the southern entrance to Smoky Valley. Getting ready to throw another log on the fire---metaphorically speaking of course.

Practicing for the Homefront

Getting in a little practice whipping up some fudge for the upcoming holiday---sugar free, deeply rich and with pecans. One or two little blocks of this is all you need :)

Frozen Bovines---Ice Cream on the Hoof

After a snowfall yesterday and overnight, cattle were still foraging on the plains, albeit with coats of snow and ice. And how cold does it have to be for cows to have coats of ice? Mini says.....

And of course cows with coats of ice solved that nagging question of whether the temperature gauge could show a negative number.....

Caped Crusader Visits the High Country

Last seen battling a purple infactuated sociopath in last year's movie blockbuster, the Caped Crusader is taking some R&R in the gold country of Nevada....

Super Cooper Chill

As usual, Mini and I were doing our work commute this morning and things were colder than they had been lately. Never even considered if there could be a negative temp displayed. True to her German engineering roots, Mini didn't have an issue, but her Floridian driver was a bit chilled.

Colorful Cookie Riot

This year's first crop of sugar cookies show their colors.....not sure if we've done purple before but it was of course a favorite of the estrogen crowd.

Phased Array Billboard

Mounted on a mountain over looking Indian Springs, NV, this radar system has no moving parts, is electronically steerable and can see small birds in flight. This area just north of Las Vegas is the location of Creech Air Force base---home to the Reapers who patrol the skies over most any theater of conflict nowadays and are controlled remotely by using our young, video gaming geeks. Gee, why didn't they have this 30 years ago? :)
